I am honored that my ‘Stare Down with Death’, a personal photograph from this past year, took 1st place in a regional juried art show that will hang at Stifel Fine Arts Center until the end of June. Another person photograph, ‘Summer in Athens County’, was awarded honorable mention.
This was a moment that happened at my daughter’s school during a Halloween celebration. My intense stare down with ‘Death’ lasted for minutes. The other children were oblivious to our contemplation of one another. They were engaged in their own funny, intimate and confusing interactions. I took many, many photographs of this situation waiting for a peak moment. I am happy I showed up with my camera on this day. Once in awhile, a magical situation unfolds as a gift. Amen and Olé.
